Uchi, a modern Japanese concept from James Beard Award-winning chef Tyson Cole (pictured), makes its Arizona debut tonight with the start of a week-long soft opening on the northeast corner of Scottsdale and First Street in Old Town Scottsdale.
The food
Cole’s elevated menu features innovative takes on sushi and sashimi, makimono, yakimono, tempura, and an ever-changing omakase (chef’s choice menu) based on seasonal items.
Scottsdale-specific menu items include a lamb sirloin with roast kabocha puree (right) and masu crudo made with ocean trout and Japanese sweet potato leaf (lower left).
The space
The Austin, Texas-based concept takes over the former Bandera space – just across First Street from Ra Sushi – for its seventh U.S. location.
The 207-seat restaurant also has bar seating and a patio.
