The Starving Artist takes over ex-Helton Brewing building in Phoenix

👨🏼‍🎨 The Starving Artist, a new ‘‘neighborhood dive bar meets cocktail lounge’’ concept from OHSO Brewery & Distillery, has opened in the former Helton Brewing building on the northwest corner of Indian School and 22nd Street in Phoenix.

What’s on the menu?

Shareable plates, salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. Highlights include Korean BBQ braised beef nachos, grilled stone fruit sandwich, hoisin glazed pork banh mi, and street corn pizza.

There’s a pizza of the month. This month it’s dill pickle pizza with white garlic sauce.

Happy hour specials include $3 OHSO drafts and pizza slices from 3-6 p.m. weekdays.

What’s on tap?

There are 18 craft beers, including 10 from OHSO and rotating taps dedicated to several local breweries. Also: Canned and bottled beers.

Twenty specialty cocktails, featuring OHSO spirits, range from poblano margaritas to coffee martinis.

Eight wines – three red, three white, two sparkling – are available by the glass or bottle.

The space

The decor features versions of famous artworks.

Activities include billiards, darts, and vintage arcade games.
