🐓 The Farmhouse, a fixture in Gilbert since 1989, is the latest longtime Valley restaurant to announce its impending closure. Its last day will be Sunday.
Owners Sylvia Hilligardt and daughter Milli launched The Farmhouse in a stand-alone building — an actual farmhouse — at Warner and Gilbert roads, but moved two miles to “new” digs downtown in 2001.
For decades, morning diners have lined up on the sidewalk of the century-old space to enjoy hefty omelets, buttermilk pancakes, and The Farmhouse’s signature giant cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting.
No public announcement has been made – although staff and some diners have been told – thus it’s not known why the restaurant is closing. But it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise given that Sylvia Hilligardt is 86 and Milli 63.
They’ve had their building listed for sale since last year.
