🐓 Boston Market, the pioneering rotisserie chicken restaurant, is on the verge of extinction.
- The fast-food concept, which once had more than 1,000 U.S. locations, is down to just two dozen. None remain in Arizona.
What happened? Boston Market took on massive debt to fuel expansion in the 1990s and was forced to declare bankruptcy in 1998. It has been sold to three different owners since. All have been unable to make the chain profitable.
- The chain currently faces hundreds of lawsuits, owes money to numerous creditors, and had its Colorado headquarters seized due to unpaid taxes.
What’s next? It likely will take several months for the lawsuits to get sorted out, after which the chain is expected to shut down.
