🍖 More than 40 top pitmasters fire up their smokers this weekend for the second annual Downtown Mesa BBQ Classic.
‘‘There truly is no other event in metro Phoenix that comes close to what people can expect to see and taste,’’ says Terry Madeksza, director of the Downtown Mesa Association.
The competition, which will be held at the intersection of Macdonald and Pepper, kicks off with dessert and appetizer categories from 5-9 p.m. Friday, followed by four meat categories from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
There also will be non-barbecue food vendors, line dancing lessons, kids activities, and local artisanal items for sale.
Admission is free, and tasting tickets are $2.
