🧇 Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles, the iconic Southern comfort-food restaurant founded by Larry “Lo-Lo” White, closed its nine-year-old location in downtown Gilbert on Sunday.
‘‘If you’re ever looking for that #Loloschickenandwaffles Fix, We Still Going Strong in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Las Vegas & Dallas/Grapevine TX. But Gilbert has ran it’s course,’’ the restaurant posted on social media.
The original Lo-Lo’s was opened in 2002 by Larry “Lo-Lo” White, whose grandmother had her own well-known Phoenix restaurant, Mrs. White’s Golden Rule Cafe.
The Gilbert location was one of the first restaurants to open at the then-new Heritage Marketplace building in February 2015. Its 4,100-square-foot space featured old wood and bricks, exposed ductwork, and corrugated metal.
The menu offered Southern favorites such as shrimp and grits, catfish beignets, and fried green tomatoes, but the namesake dish featured secret-recipe fried chicken (that White developed at his grandmother’s restaurant) paired with fluffy waffles.
Mason jars of “drank” include several flavors of Kool-Aid.
