Award-winning Mexican restaurant Elvira’s opens in Scottsdale

🌮 Elvira’s, an award-winning Mexican restaurant in Tubac, has opened a second location at Market Street at DC Ranch on the southeast corner of Pima and Thompson Peak Parkway in north Scottsdale.

The new location is a joint effort between Elvira’s owner – celebrity chef Ruben Monroy – and Valley restauranteur Tom Kaufman (The Living RoomRock LobsterChop.)

Monroy’s grandmother Elvira (pronounced El-VEE-ra) launched the restaurant in Nogales, Sonora, in 1927, but it was moved to Tubac, about 40 miles south of Tucson, in 2009.

The two-story, 3,600-square-foot Scottsdale space, which formerly was home to Jalapeño Inferno, has lime-washed walls, an array of chandeliers, antique mirrors, and a walk-in wine cellar.

Highlights of the elevated menu include cuitlacoche chicken tacos ($25), a flank steak molcajete ($35), hazelnut mole ($34), and guajillo shrimp ($38).

Hours are 4-10 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday.
