Craft brewery Sana Sana Cerveceria opens in Phoenix

🍺 Sana Sana Cerveceria, a new craft brewery honoring the owners’ Mexican-American heritage, has soft-opened on Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix.

It’s located near the southeast corner of Roosevelt and Fourth streets behind Modified Arts and just west of Greenwood Brewing and Il Bosco Pizza.

The brewery’s name is taken from a popular Mexican nursery rhyme: ‘‘Sana, sana, colita de rana.’’ (Translation: ‘‘Heal, heal, little frog’s tail.’’)

Sana Sana’s 1959 brick building with a newly painted mural by local artist Tato Caraveo was meant to be the home of Safe Haven Brewing before the covid pandemic scuttled those plans.

Head brewer Greg Suchsland, who came from Bottle Logic in Anaheim, Calif., has seven beers on tap: the flagship Sana Clara lager, Golden Sana golden ale, Brisa pale ale, Ola West Coast IPA, Flaco hazy IPA, Sana Negra amber, and La Sombra stout.

There is no kitchen, but co-owner Daniel Castro says the brewery will book food trucks.

Soft-opening hours are noon-10 p.m. daily. A grand opening celebration is scheduled for April 19.
