Hooters — the Atlanta-based restaurant chain known for chicken wings and its skimpy wait-staff outfits — has filed for bankruptcy.
It plans to sell all of its 100 company-owned restaurants to two of its franchisee groups and exit bankruptcy this summer. Some under-performing restaurants may be closed.
The chain has 420 restaurants worldwide. It currently has two Valley locations – in Phoenix and Mesa.
Hooters’ original Arizona restaurant at the Arizona Center in downtown Phoenix closed in 2022 after 32 years. Another high-profile location in downtown Tempe shuttered in 2015.
Hooters is the latest well-known chain to file for bankruptcy. Tex-Mex chain On the Border filed last month, and Red Lobster, TGI Fridays, and Buca di Beppo all filed last year.
