Iconic ’60s Mission-style Taco Bell in south Scottdale to close

🌮 The old Mission-style Taco Bell in south Scottsdale – one of fewer than 10 remaining in the country with the original 1960s look – is closing.

It’s being replaced by a new modern Taco Bell getting ready to open next door near the southwest corner of Hayden and McDowell.

The original cantina-inspired building opened in 1966, just four years after the California-based chain was founded. It was Taco Bell’s 31st restaurant.

Today, Taco Bell has nearly 200 restaurants in Arizona alone.

The building has just three tables inside, several more on a front patio, a narrow drive-thru, and only six parking spaces.

And the restaurant’s bathrooms are only accessible by key from the outside.

Despite its limitations, the location has been open 24 hours a day.

There’s been no word yet on the fate of the building, and its closing date has yet to be announced. One report pegs it as April 9. Another April 12.

Either way, you still have time to make one last run for the border.
