5 to try: Notable restaurants that opened in April

Marisco Boys

🐟 If you’re one of the legions of fans of the Valley’s half-dozen Taco Boys eateries, you’ll definitely want to head to midtown Phoenix to check out its new sibling – Marisco Boys, an elevated full-service restaurant that’s moved into the former Coco’s Bakery on the southwest corner of Seventh Street and Monte Vista. The live-fire Sonoran seafood concept offers aguachile, ceviches, hot and cold molcajetes, mesquite-grilled shrimp, whole fried tilapia, and, as you would expect, several kinds of seafood tacos.

Bing Bistro

🍜 Ever since the closings of China Magic Noodle House in Chandler and Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle House in Mesa, hand-pulled noodles have been hard to find in the Valley. That’s why I’m excited about Bing Bistro on the southeast corner of Hayden and Frank Lloyd Wright in north Scottsdale. Not only does it specialize in noodles hand-stretched in its open kitchen, but also handmade dumplings steamed to order.

Don Guerra’s Bagel & Slice

🥯 After selling his Barrio Bread loaves on Tuesdays of Hayden Flour Mills’ kitchen in Gilbert for the past 18 months, the James Beard Award-winning baker from Tucson has launched Don Guerra’s Bagel & Slice nearby in a former Sonic Drive-In just south of Arizona Wilderness Brewing near the southeast corner of Arizona and Guadalupe. Grab a bagel, a sandwich on a bagel or bread, or a slice of Sicilian-style pizza on focaccia.

Arizona Wilderness Miracle Mile

🍺 It’s been more than 60 years since Phoenix’s Miracle Mile – a stretch of McDowell roughly from Seventh Street to the Piestewa Freeway – was a go-to dining destination, but one of Arizona’s top breweries has joined the revitalization campaign. Despite its outdoors theme, Arizona Wilderness Miracle Mile exudes a comfortable neighborhood vibe. The brick-and-wood building includes a counter-service restaurant and a U-shaped bar.

Glenrosa

⛳️ Located at Grass Clippings Rolling Hills golf course – Arizona’s only night golf facility (insert your own ‘‘Caddyshack’’ reference to night-putting here) – on Mill Avenue just north of the Loop 202 in north Tempe, Sonoran wood-fired restaurant Glenrosa boasts a 200-seat dining room, an outdoor bar, and a tiered patio with lawn games and scenic views of Papago Buttes. The menu ranges from pork belly tacos to ribeye steaks.
