Tarbell to take over Gertrude’s at Desert Botanical Garden

👨‍🍳 Well-known Valley chef Mark Tarbell has been tapped to take over a popular Phoenix restaurant.

The Desert Botanical Garden’s Gertrude’s Restaurant – known for its garden-driven dishes, seasonal cocktails, and beautiful setting –  ended its 19-year partnership with the Hause Restaurant Group on May 31.

Owners Alan and Chantal Hause, who also oversaw the garden’s Patio Cafe, decided to focus solely on catering and will remain involved with DBG in that capacity.

Tarbell, best-known for his eponymous Tarbell’s in Phoenix, takes over as culinary lead for both Gertrude’s and Patio Cafe.

An ‘‘Iron Chef America’’ winner and James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef Southwest, Tarbell is a two-time inductee into the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame.

He’s won four Emmy’s as the host of local PBS shows  “Plate and Pour” and “Check, Please! Arizona.”
