🍨 Portland’s cult-favorite ice cream brand has officially doubled down in Arizona. After debuting last summer in Gilbert’s Agritopia, Salt & Straw opens its second Valley shop today – this time at Novus Place near the northwest corner of Rural and University in Tempe.
Founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek, Salt & Straw started as a single cart and has since grown into a national phenomenon. The brand is known for inventive flavors that range from simple – like Double Fold Vanilla or Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons – to wonderfully weird combos such as Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper.
At the new Tempe shop, you’ll find 13 always-available classics including Honey Lavender, Arbequina Olive Oil, and Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
But the real fun comes with the brand’s rotating monthly menus. October brings a spooky “Halloween Series” with flavors like The Great Candycopia (think all your favorite trick-or-treat chocolates in butterscotch ice cream), Jack O’Lantern Pumpkin Bread with cream cheese frosting, and Creepy Crawly Critters studded with candy-coated real bugs (pictured).
Salt & Straw joins the growing culinary lineup at Novus Place, which includes North Italia, Blanco Cocina + Cantina, Flower Child, Blue Sushi Sake Grill, Eureka!, Over Easy, and The Melt.
