🌵 Gertrude’s by Tarbell’s, the rebranded restaurant at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, has reopened under the culinary lead of acclaimed Phoenix chef Mark Tarbell.
Gertrude’s and its sibling, the grab-and-go Patio Cafe, closed in May after operators Alan and Chantal Hause decided to focus on catering.
The garden, on the southeast corner of McDowell and Galvin Parkway, enlisted Tarbell, owner of Tarbell’s and host of TV’s ‘‘Check, Please! Arizona,” to take over both restaurants.
The revamped menu features three kinds of tacos – duck confit, tempura dish, and barbacoa short rib – with white bean puree and jicama-citrus slaw.
Entrees include Arizona wagyu steak tips, green chile pork, organic black prawns, and honey-lime salmon. Corn polenta cakes with salsa verde and al pastor mushroom sopes are among the vegan options.
For dessert, there’s Arizona date bread pudding and buñuelos (Mexican fritters).
