🚫 Word of Mouth Grill, a well-regarded barbecue joint in south Tempe since 2019, has closed the Ahwatukee location it launched earlier this year.
Owner Demetrious Makel (pictured) opened his second restaurant April 1 on the northeast corner of 48th Street and Ray – about six miles from the original on the southwest corner of McClintock and Elliot.
Word of Mouth’s menu offers brisket, pulled pork, hot links, pulled chicken, St. Louis-style ribs and more. Sauces range from fiery habanero to Carolina mustard to Alabama white.
No reason was given for the closure. The Ahwatukee location had an average Yelp rating of 4.8 stars (out of 5).
