Valley hospitality veteran Jason Key dies in traffic accident

Condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of longtime Valley hospitality figure Jason Key, who died Friday morning in a traffic accident at age 47.

Key was the operating partner of The Kettle Black Kitchen & Pub in downtown Phoenix from 2021-24 and co-founded Double Dutch Kitchen & Cocktails in south Chandler in 2021.

‘‘We are heartbroken and stunned by the tragic loss of our friend and colleague Jason Key,’’ The Kettle Black posted on social media. ‘‘His warmth, humor and genuine care for all made our restaurants feel like family. Jay wasn’t just a great friend – he was an even better person and father.’’

Key most recently was working as the restaurant manager at Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale. His 30-plus years in the hospitality industry also included stints at Virtu Honest Craft and Dominick’s.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to pay for funeral expenses and help support Key’s two young children, son Calvan and daughter Adelynn. You can donate here.
