Johnny Chu’s Mifan Claypot Kitchen closes in midtown Phoenix

🚫 Mifan Claypot Kitchen, chef Johnny Chu’s small midtown Phoenix eatery known for its Hong Kong–style claypot rice bowls, has closed after three years.

The restaurant occupied a ground-floor space at the Muse Apartments on Central Avenue, steps from the light rail and within walking distance of the Heard Museum and Phoenix Art Museum.

Mifan stood out by doing one thing and doing it with care: traditional claypot rice. Each bowl arrived still sizzling in its pot, with steam rising and that prized layer of crisped, golden rice forming at the bottom.

No word yet on what Chu, who has launched (and closed) numerous concepts over the years, will do next.
