🌭 Portillo’s, the cult-favorite born in the Illinois hot dog stands of the 1960s, has officially opened in west Chandler near the northeast corner of I-10 & Ray.
For Midwestern transplants, this is huge. For uninitiated locals? This is your chance to see what decades of hype tastes like.
The signature move is the Chicago-style hot dog – poppy seed bun, mustard, relish so green it practically glows, onions, tomato wedges, sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt. No ketchup. (Really. Don’t ask.)
Then comes the Italian Beef, stacked thin, richly seasoned, and customizable from “dry” to “dipped” depending on how messy you’re willing to get. Add giardiniera if you enjoy flavor and joy.
The Maxwell Street Polish, char-grilled burgers, and crinkle-cut fries all keep Portillo’s in its comfort-food sweet spot: simple, saucy, satisfying.
And, yes, the Chocolate Cake Shake is here, blending an entire slice of cake into the cup. It’s ridiculous. It’s over-the-top, but you likely will love it.
Like the chain’s seven other Valley locations, the Chandler spot leans into diner-meets-retro-roadside energy, with a drive-thru built to handle serious traffic (which it will need, because this place can get slammed).
