Tucson-based Papa Locos closes last remaining Valley location

🚫 Papa Locos Tacos & Burgers has closed its last remaining Valley location near the northeast corner of Apache and Rural in Tempe.

Despite a neon ‘‘Open’’ sign still lit in the window, a hand-written sign in the door says ‘‘Closed,’’ phone calls go to a nameless voicemail, and the location is no longer listed on the eatery’s website.

Papa Locos debuted inside a Tucson gas station in 2011 but eventually evolved into three concepts under one roof with the additions of Jay’s Hot Chicken and Indo-Mex Fusion Grill.

It ventured into the Valley in recent years with locations in Mesa, Gilbert, and Tempe, none of which lasted much more than a year.

The Tucson flagship is the sole remaining location.
