📺 Guy Fieri rolls back into the Valley, revisiting Phoenix-born taqueria Tacos Chiwas for a new episode of the Food Network’s ‘‘Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives: Triple D Nation’’ on Friday (check your chosen TV provider’s listings for airtime).
The Chihuahuan-style spot first landed on ‘‘DDD’’ in 2018, less than a year after opening in a former Dairy Queen on McDowell, and the episode instantly blew the doors off, doubling business overnight.
Since then, owners Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin have transformed that momentum into a full-blown culinary empire. Tacos Chiwas relocated to a larger Phoenix space, expanded to downtown Mesa and Sky Harbor, and spun off new concepts, including Tempe’s Cocina Chiwas and Aruma Cafe.
They’ve also partnered on Bacanora, Main Burgers, and Espiritu.
The new ‘‘Mex-Italian and Meatless’’ episode, which actually was filmed about 18 months ago, checks in on their journey and highlights signature dishes like lengua and gorditas.
