Mobster-themed Dillinger’s Bar & Grill opens in north Phoenix

Dillinger’s Bar & Grill, which describes itself as Arizona’s first mobster-themed bar and grill, has opened in the former Tavern On The Creek near the northeast corner of Cave Creek Road and Greenway Road in north Phoenix.

The space had sat dark since Tavern On The Creek closed in 2022. Before Tavern on the Creek, the rustic building was home to gay bars Taylor’s Tavern and Rainbow Cactus Saloon.

Dillinger’s menu leans classic and crowd-pleasing: burgers, sandwiches, pastas, and mac bowls with monikers like The Public Enemy Burger, Mob Hit Meatball Sub, and Bugsy Bay Lobster Ravioli.

In case you’re wondering, John Dillinger did indeed have a history in Arizona. The notorious gangster finally was arrested in Tucson in 1934 and extradited to Indiana, where he escaped while awaiting trial.

Five months later, he was shot dead by FBI agents after exiting the Biograph Theater in Chicago.
