Federal agents raid Zipps Sports Grill locations across Valley

Multiple Valley locations of Zipps Sports Grill were raided by Homeland Security Investigations and several other federal agencies serving 15 search warrants Monday afternoon.

The warrants are part of a months-long ‘‘criminal investigation into felony violations of federal law,’’ according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Arizona, which didn’t elaborate.

Armed agents reportedly told employees to stop working and questioned them about their immigration status. Boxes of documents were carried out of some of the restaurants.

“Additional information will be forthcoming over the next few days as evidence is gathered, reviewed and evaluated for charging as appropriate,” the news release says.

Zipps is owned by Todd Goldman and his family and managed by Goldman Management Inc., which could not be reached for comment Monday.

The Goldmans started in the restaurant business with Goldie’s Sports Cafe in Scottsdale in 1993 before launching the Zipps concept.

Zipps has grown to five locations in Phoenix, four in Scottsdale, two in Tempe, one in Chandler, one in Gilbert, and one in Glendale.
