After 99 years, The Original Rainbow Cone arrives in Surprise

🍦 Valley ice cream fans, your 99-year wait is officially over.

The Original Rainbow Cone – yes, that iconic Chicago institution that’s been making Midwesterners insufferably smug about their ice cream since 1926 – has landed in Surprise.

The shop opened Monday on the southwest corner of Waddell and Litchfield, marking the brand’s long-overdue Arizona debut as location No. 30 nationwide.

If you’re not familiar, Rainbow Cone built its legend on a five-layer sliced cone stacked with orange sherbet, pistachio, Palmer House, strawberry and chocolate. No rounded scoops here – this thing is architectural.

Now in its centennial year and still run by the founding Sapp family, the chain has expanded its menu to include hand-spun shakes, mini donuts, sundaes, and ice cream cakes.
