Grey Hen Rx debuts Prohibition-era Juárez-inspired theme

🇲🇽 Century Grand’s acclaimed cocktail den Grey Hen Rx has a new identity.

After teasing the concept with a one-day pop-up in February, the Phoenix bar has officially retired its Chinese apothecary theme, ‘‘ME Lee,’’ and gone full-time with ‘‘Wicked City.’’

The new theme is a love letter to Ciudad Juárez during the 1920s, when American Prohibition pushed thirsty expatriates south of the border and the border city earned the nickname ‘‘the Wickedest City in the West.’’

The new menu leans into that cross-border spirit with Mexican spirits, bold flavors, and some genuinely creative technique.

Highlights include The Withdrawn, a flan-clarified blend of Lost Explorer Blanco, Granalta rum, passionfruit, and guajillo, and Pablito, a bright, citrusy sipper built on Mal Bien Zacate Limón and white chocolate with a housemade grapefruit-lime soda.

On the food side, snacks like Esquites (fire-roasted corn, árbol chile, Mexican beer) and the Wicked City Trio (mole carne seca, garlic pickled Serrano olives, and warm Japanese peanuts) round out the experience.

Open 4 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Thursday and 2:30 p.m. to midnight Friday through Sunday.
