Ted’s Hot Dogs finally opening in Chandler – after 9 years

🌭 When I first reported Ted’s Hot Dogs had revived its long-stalled plans for a second Valley location back in early 2024, the Tempe institution was already seven years into trying to make Chandler happen.

Plans originally announced in 2017 were derailed by renovation overruns at the Tempe location, design disputes over a drive-thru, a site change, and ultimately the pandemic.

Now, after nine years, it’s actually happening.

The fourth-generation western New York chain, founded in 1929 and a Tempe fixture since Spiro Liaros retired to Arizona in 1983, opens near the northwest corner of Gilbert and Germann on May 23.

The new location was built as a nod to the original Buffalo stand, preserving Ted’s retro look while adding a full patio, indoor gathering spaces, a walk-up ice cream window, and the brand’s first-ever drive-thru.

Grand opening festivities run May 23–24. I’ll have full details on activities and giveaways closer to the date.
