May recap: 7 Valley restaurants & bars that are now closed

🚫 May brought some genuinely painful goodbyes, including a 52-year Phoenix institution demolished for convenience stores, a Valley Mexican family chain that keeps shrinking, and a Korean corn dog shop that had its moment and moved on:

Francine

Scottsdale diners got a gut-punch when Francine, the coastal French-Mediterranean restaurant (pictured) that’s called Fashion Square’s luxury wing home since 2020, went dark without so much as a farewell post.

Liquor Pig

The Old Town gastropub from industry veterans Scott Casey and Steve “Chops” Smith served its last drinks, but the space isn’t sitting dark for long. It’s relaunching this Friday as a new concept, Wayward

Myungrang Hotdog

Is Arizona’s Korean corn dog moment over? Myungrang Hotdog, the Mesa eatery that became a viral obsession thanks to Keith Lee, closed its doors for good, marking the end of the chain’s entire run in the state.

Raffaele’s Pizza

After 52 years in Phoenix, the original Raffaele’s closed – not by choice, but because the building is being demolished for what owner Billy Burns describes as ‘‘a QT-style 7-Eleven and another McDonald’s.’’

Serrano’s Mexican Food

The contraction of a Valley institution continues: Serrano’s closed its north Mesa location after more than 34 years, another chapter lost from the family-owned chain that has been pulling back across the Valley.

Underground Burger

After four years in Queen Creek, Underground Burger posted on Facebook with no warning – “We are closing permanently, effective immediately” – and that was that.

Yan’s Chinese Food

After nearly two decades serving Goodyear, Yan’s Chinese Food quietly closed its doors; Scott Zhen, son of the owners, shared a heartfelt farewell on social media thanking the community for 19 years of support.
