Angry Crab Shack claws its way into south Chandler today

🦀 South Chandler seafood lovers, your Thursday just got a whole lot messier – in the best way possible.

Angry Crab Shack officially opens its newest Arizona location at 3 p.m. today on the southeast corner of Gilbert and Queen Creek roads, and the brand is pulling out all the stops to welcome the neighborhood.

The new spot is owned and operated by the Appiah family, Chandler residents and franchise partners who’ve been eager to bring the beloved seafood boil concept to their own community.

‘‘We’re incredibly excited to officially open our doors in Chandler,’’ says Adelaide Appiah.

‘‘Our family has long admired the brand’s community-focused mission and crave-worthy seafood, and we’re proud to bring this experience to our own neighborhood.’’

If you’re not already familiar with Angry Crab Shack, here’s the deal: think bold Asian-Cajun seafood boils loaded with shrimp, crab, lobster, and crawfish, tossed in signature sauces, and served in a casual, roll-up-your-sleeves atmosphere.

It’s messy, it’s flavorful, and it’s very much the kind of dining experience the East Valley does well.

This marks the 18th Arizona location for the chain, which former NFL player Ron Lou founded in Mesa in 2013. Other locations are in Nevada, Texas, Washington, Georgia, Alabama, and England.

Today’s grand opening celebration is packed with reasons to make the trip, highlighted by a spicy wing eating competition pitting Chandler police against Chandler firefighters.

Add in a live DJ, a balloon artist for the kids, a spin-to-win table with prizes (including a TV giveaway) plus support for local nonprofits, and you’ve got a full afternoon of free entertainment with your seafood.

Open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
