Funky Frida’s closing after less than a year, will shift to events

🚫 Funky Frida’s, the Frida Kahlo-inspired Mexican restaurant that opened next to OHSO Brewery on the northeast corner of Indian School and 49th Street in Arcadia last fall, is closing as a walk-in restaurant.

The team announced regular restaurant service will run through Sunday, after which the space will transition into a private event venue for weddings, corporate events, and other special gatherings.

‘‘The memories aren’t ending,’’ the restaurant says in a social media post. ‘‘We’re excited to make more with you through weddings, celebrations, corporate events, and special gatherings.’’

The background

Funky Frida’s debuted in October 2025 from the team behind OHSO. It quickly became known for its cobalt-and-magenta dining room, a massive portrait of Frida Kahlo, and a menu built around shareable Mexican- and Latin-inspired plates like duck carnitas tacos, chile-glazed pork shank, and a $9.99 weekday lunch special.

The bar leaned heavily on agave spirits, with tequila and mezcal flights and cocktails like the Pablito’s Paloma.

In its farewell message, the restaurant thanked guests ‘‘for making Funky Frida’s part of your date nights, Taco Tuesdays, weekends, and celebrations,’’ and invited fans in for one more visit before the switch.
