Update: Tipsy Egg, The Uncommon & Recreo to close permanently

🚫 Yesterday, I reported that Tipsy Egg, The Uncommon, and Recreo Cantina (pictured) – three Downtown Chandler restaurants tied to developer Niels Kreipke – had abruptly closed, with Kreipke telling me all three would reopen by the weekend.

That’s no longer the plan.

Chris Purcell, who manages several concepts on behalf of Kreipke, reached out to me late Wednesday afternoon with an update: all three restaurants will close permanently at the end of business on Saturday.

Before then, guests will get one last chance to visit. According to Purcell, Recreo Cantina and Tipsy Egg will be open Thursday through Saturday, while The Uncommon will be open Friday and Saturday. Hours are posted on each restaurant’s website.

“We’re extremely grateful for our time serving the Downtown Chandler community,” Purcell said, adding that the closures are clearing space for new concepts. He said additional projects are planned for Downtown Chandler in late 2026 and early 2027, with more details to be announced.

Purcell framed the timing as an opportunity for closure, telling me the goal is to ‘‘give our team members and the community the opportunity to come together one last time’’ before the doors shut for good.

What’s still unknown

Purcell clarified the timeline but not the reason for the closures. It’s still not clear what prompted three restaurants under common ownership to go dark simultaneously this week, only to be recharacterized a day later as permanent closures rather than temporary ones.

Whether that shift reflects a decision already in motion when Kreipke spoke with me Tuesday night, or a decision reached Wednesday, remains unclear.

I asked Purcell directly what drove the closures and what’s coming next for the three spaces. His response: ‘‘Stay tuned for announcements soon on what is coming next.’’
