🚫 A neighborhood dining institution has come to an end. The Melting Pot, the fondue restaurant that’s anchored the northeast corner of Ray and East Ranch Circle in Ahwatukee since 2000, has closed its doors for good.
The news came via a social media post from the restaurant, which cited the unexpected death of its owner as the reason for the closure. Unlike a lot of restaurant shutdowns that come with warning signs – dwindling crowds, quiet menu changes, “for lease” rumors – this one landed as a genuine shock to regulars.
‘‘It has been an honor and privilege to have served the Ahwatukee community for 26 years and be a part of fondue celebrations since 2000,’’ the restaurant wrote, thanking guests for ‘‘26 incredible years of fondue, celebrations and memories.’’
For anyone who grew up in Ahwatukee, the location was practically a rite of passage – a go-to spot for prom dates, anniversaries, graduation dinners, and that one birthday where someone inevitably dropped their steak cube in the oil. It’s the kind of place that collects memories course by course: cheese fondue to start, a hot pot of oil or broth for the entrées, and that final ceremonial dip into melted chocolate.
The Ahwatukee location had actually expanded in recent years, adding 50 seats back in 2019 after Melting Pot’s Scottsdale outpost closed – a sign of how central the Ray Road restaurant had become to the brand’s Valley presence.
Fondue fans in the area are being pointed toward the Melting Pot location at Arrowhead in Glendale, and the brand notes that any gift cards purchased for the Ahwatukee location remain valid nationwide with no expiration date.
