Brio Italian Grille at SanTan Village closes its doors in Gilbert

🚫 After 18 years serving Tuscan-inspired fare to Gilbert diners, Brio Italian Grille at SanTan Village shopping center has closed for good. A sign taped to the restaurant’s window breaks the news simply: ‘‘San Tan is Closed,’’ followed by a note thanking loyal customers for their years of patronage.

Brio opened at the East Valley shopping center back in June 2008, quickly becoming a go-to spot for northern Italian classics – wood-fired flatbreads, made-to-order pasta, and a solid wine list – in a space that shared the corner with the Apple Store and Barnes & Noble.

The Gilbert location held a special distinction as the chain’s only Arizona restaurant, having outlasted sister locations that once operated in Scottsdale and Tucson. Its closure marks the end of Brio’s run in the state.

No word yet on what might fill the vacated space at SanTan Village, though the shopping center has seen steady turnover in its dining lineup in recent years.
