Popular Arcadia restaurant Vecina, whose honors include a 2020 James Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant in the U.S., has launched a second, larger location at McCormick Ranch in central Scottsdale.
Known for its modern American, Latin-inspired cuisine, Vecina takes over the former Z’Tejas building on the northwest corner of Hayden and Via de Ventura – a space three times larger than the original.
The extra room means an enlarged kitchen for new menu items and catering, private dining areas, a mezzanine, and a lakeside patio. A mural by Tato Caraveo frames the cocktail bar.
‘‘We’re really excited to build on what we’ve created in Arcadia, while also having the opportunity to do things we simply haven’t had the space to do there,’’ owner and chef James Fox says.
The menu retains Arcadia’s most popular dishes – from Fox’s take on Japanese karaage, an appetizer of fried chicken morsels served atop aji amarillo sauce ($17), to Faroe Island salmon tacos garnished with yuzu kosho aioli, Cara Cara oranges, grapefruit, and pink peppercorn ($24).
(Pro tip: Get $2 off the karaage during happy hour from 4-6 p.m. daily.)
Vecina’s Scottsdale location is open 4-9 p.m. daily.
