Matt Carter’s new eatery & market Dash coming to Scottsdale

It’s been a decade since Matt Carter – the chef behind Zinc Bistro, The Mission, and Fat Ox – announced something fresh. That drought is over.

Dash, an all-day eatery and neighborhood market, will open this fall on the southeast corner of Hayden Road and Mountain View in Scottsdale.

Carter, an Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame inductee, has lived in McCormick Ranch for 17 years and says he’s spent about 10 of them driving past the space, wishing his neighborhood had a true local hangout.

Dash is his answer, and it’s a showcase for the foods he loves but that never quite fit on his other menus: sandwiches, Roman-style pizza, charcoal chicken, soft-serve, and pizza pasta.

He’s not doing it alone. Longtime Fat Ox pastry chef Lisa Graf is running the pastry program.

The concept’s motto is “Dash in, dash out, morning, noon, and night,” and the space is designed to shift with the clock. Mornings bring coffee, fresh pastries, and mimosas. By evening, the lights go low and candles come out, with rotating wines and batched cocktails meant for sharing.

The interior is intimate at just 12 seats, anchored by a custom vintage-style audiophile sound system, while a 40-seat west-facing patio is set up to catch Arizona sunsets. For the grab-and-go crowd, there’s a dedicated curbside pickup area for online orders.

The menu will roll out in stages, starting with coffee, pastries, and sandwiches before adding other items.

Dash is also a market. Shelves will be stocked with Carter’s greatest hits from his other restaurants, including his well-known mac and cheese, chips and guacamole, and hand-shaped pastas to cook at home.
