Phoenix diners who have fallen for LeDu Thai have something new to look forward to. Thursday, executive chef Vivid “Gabby” Chu opens Homme Thai Supper Club, a 100-seat, fine-casual spot serving lunch, dinner, and bar service under the motto ‘‘Where Thai Cooking Feels Like Home.’’
It takes over the two-building property on Camelback and Third Street in Uptown Phoenix that previously was home to SunUp Brewing, Los Sombreros, and Copper & Sage. The deal was facilitated by The Restaurant Brokers.
Vivid Chu’s background
Raised on a farm in Hat Yai in southern Thailand, Chu learned to cook beside her mother and sharpened her skills in her uncle’s restaurant before moving to the U.S. in 2015 and working in kitchens in Florida, Chicago, and New York.
Where LeDu leans into fiery southern Thai flavors, Homme looks inward at the comforting dishes Chu grew up eating, refined with fine-dining technique but served without the stuffiness.
‘‘Homme Thai Supper Club is an invitation to sit at my family’s table,’’ Chu says.
What’s on the menu
Expect shareable plates such as kua kling, a dry stir-fry of minced chicken with southern Thai curry paste, sator beans, and makrut lime; dtom ga-ti, a coconut shrimp soup with bamboo shoots and king oyster mushrooms; and gaeng khua, a grilled beef curry scented with acacia leaves.
Drinks get equal attention. The wine list pairs Arizona producers like AZ Stronghold, Flying Leap, and Provision Wines with natural bottles sourced through The Natural Wine Co.
The ‘‘Things From Home’’ cocktail menu draws on flavors from Chu’s childhood, including a pandan-infused Mekhong rum drink called DNA and a banana espresso martini made with O-liang cold brew.
