After a couple soft-opening days last weekend, Otra Pizzeria celebrates its grand opening at 4 p.m. today on the northeast corner of Third and Buchanan streets in downtown Phoenix’s Warehouse District.
The pizzeria is the first piece of a two-concept project from Kell Duncan, co-founder of The Churchill, who redeveloped the Gerardo’s Building with Stephen Allen. (The pair are also behind the upcoming Jefferson House in Peoria.)
The 1928 structure, with roots in Phoenix’s historic Chinatown, had sat vacant for more than a decade. Better Days, a laid-back ‘‘high dive’’ bar with pool, darts, and cocktails from Churchill beverage director Fendi Vaughn, will occupy the upstairs.
Otra comes from chef Cesar Velasco, whose pop-ups have drawn a following since 2023.
What’s on the menu
The menu centers on Neapolitan-style pies made with D.O.P. tomatoes. Red pies range from an $18 Tomato Pie to the $24 Diablo, topped with house-made spicy sausage, pepperoni, salsa macha, and hot honey.
Other picks include the Don Pepé with pepperoni, herbed ricotta, and a house ranch drizzle, and the Little Peggy with spicy fennel sausage, burrata, and confit garlic.
On the white side, La Bianca pairs a mascarpone sauce with ricotta, almonds, and hot honey.
Hours
Otra Pizzeria is open 4-10 p.m. Sunday-Monday and Wednesday-Thursday and 4-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
