Salsa Challenge seeks contestants

By Jess Harter Wednesday, March 2, 2011

My Nana’s Salsa Challenge is looking for contestants for its April 2 festival, a fundraising event for the Arizona Hemophilia Association, at Tempe Beach Park.

Contestants compete in one of three categories – individual, business or restaurant – and in one of two divisions – hot or mild. Salsas will be judged on aroma, consistency, appropriate heat level, color, taste and after-taste.

Contestants are asked to prepare 13 gallons of salsa fresh on-site. Ingredients can be pre-chopped, but not pre-mixed. As a bonus, the first 75 contestants to register receive a $50 gift card from Fry’s.

Contestants also are needed for the Margarita Mix-Off, where local bartenders and amateurs concoct their best margarita before a panel of celebrity judges.

Winners receive cash prizes. The grand champion gets $1,000.

For more information, visit the Salsa Challenge’s website or call the Hemophilia Association at (602) 955-3947.
