Kai sommelier & wine director Kevin Lewis battling stage 4 cancer

More heartbreaking news for the Valley’s food and beverage community: Kevin Lewis, sommelier and wine director at nationally acclaimed Kai at Wild Horse Pass Resort, has been diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma.

Adenocarcinoma is a type of cancer that starts in mucus-producing glandular cells. Common types include breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer.

Lewis, 36 and the father of two young children, began working as a server assistant at the resort’s Ko’sin in 2004, working his way up to bartending and eventually earning his sommelier certification.

His longtime girlfriend and caregiver has been furloughed since March 2020 by the coronavirus pandemic so friends and family have set up a GoFundMe campaign to support Lewis and his family as he undergoes chemotherapy.
