Last month, defunct Monsterland announced it would hold a ”Resurrection Party” on Aug. 24, paving the way to reopen as an occasional one-off event venue. Diehard fans took it as a sign the former horror-themed museum, restaurant, and nightclub in downtown Mesa was coming back to life.

Those hopes were squashed today when owner Kevin Wynn made an announcement on Facebook:

With a tremendous amount of consideration and soul searching I have decided to accept an offer for the building. Unfortunately the new business will be changing to a Corporate and Wedding Venue. It will keep a Castle theme, but I will be selling the props and animatronics.

Wynn will hold an open house from 4-8 p.m. next Wednesday, July 10, to sell his collection of masks, props and animatronics.

Monsterland, which began as a seasonal haunted house, was expanded into a year-round attraction and restaurant in September 2011. It closed in January of this year.
