New York-style pizzeria Nicantoni’s moving to new Gilbert location in October

After 13 years on the northeast corner of McQueen and Warner, Gilbert pizzeria Nicantoni’s is moving to new digs.

Owner and native New Yorker Vic Buono (pictured above) just signed a lease at the country-themed JD’s Homestead center on Gilbert Road, about halfway between Elliot and Warner, in Gilbert.

The space, which is about 2.5 miles away from the current location, most recently was home to the short-lived MJaye’s.

Occupants before that included The Groves Bar & Grill (pictured below) and Old World Pizza Kitchen.

Buono says his New York-style pizzeria will remain at its current location until its lease ends on Sept. 30. He hopes to open in the new location by Oct. 14.

This will be the fourth pizzeria Buono has opened in the East Valley. He launched his original Buono’s Pizza at Dobson and Guadalupe in Mesa in 1988, and later opened a second Buono’s in Gilbert.

After selling Buono’s to a longtime employee, he took a few years off before deciding to jump back into the business by purchasing the then-Islands Pizza, which he renamed Nicantoni’s after his two kids, Dominic and Toni.
