Paletas Betty’s Bananas Foster caramel paleta wins Carmelpalooza

Congrats to Paletas Betty owner Beatriz “Betty” Alatorre, who was the overall winner at the annual Caramelpalooza caramel-dessert contest in Phoenix over the weekend.

Alatorre’s creation was a Bananas Foster Caramel Paleta. The winning paleta (a Mexican popsicle) is one of the eight flavors available today at both the Chandler and Tempe locations of Paletas Betty.

Category winners Saturday were:

• Best Traditional Caramel: David Duarte, Hyatt Regency Phoenix, for Dulce de Leche Praline Crunch Bars
• Best Non-Traditional Caramel: Tammie Coe, Tammie Coe Cakes, for Concord Grape Caramel Tadpoles
• People’s Choice: Monica Castillo, Churn
