Irish countdown: 12 St. Patrick’s Day parties around the East Valley

Fibber Magees Chandler AZIrish Republic: The party at the former Murphy’s Law is spilling across the street  into  A.J. Chandler Park. It’s a family-friendly affair from noon to 5 p.m. with bagpipers, Irish dancers, and games. After 5, it’s 21-and-over with music from Kung Fu Grip, the Insomniacs, and DJ Hanzerelli. Tickets: $8-$10 general, $40 VIP.

Tempe Marketplace: “Shamrocked,” hosted by D’Arcy McGee’s, Cadillac Ranch, and San Felipe’s, starts at noon and  features bagpipers, a leprechaun beauty pageant, and a trip to Ireland raffle. Valley bands Nineball, 49 Til Midnight, and MetalHead open for ’90s rockers Filter. 21-and-over. Tickets: $10-$15.

SanTan Brewing: A special Irish menu including corned beef & cabbage, bangers & mash, and lamb stew in a bread bowl will be offered, along with Irish music all day.

Thirsty Lion Pub: The party kicks off Friday night with a special Irish menu and music by B Platinum. Saturday, there’ll be Irish bagpipers and dancers. Live music by Acoustic Lunch Show, CooBee Coo, and Chris Parker Project starts at noon. No cover.

Fibber Magees Chandler AZFibber Magees: Breakfast starts at 8 a.m., followed by music at 11 a.m. from Holly Kirsten, the Brazenheads, the Sea Merchants, and The Scones. $5 cover before 3 p.m; $10 after.

Down Under: The party, which also celebrates the wine bar’s 10th anniversary, starts at 2 p.m. with Irish drink specials. Bluzone performs on the patio at 2 p.m., and Seanachie plays at 7 p.m. $10 cover includes one drink.

Rula Bula: Celtic rockers The Sullivans kick things off at noon (they also perform Friday night), with Irish dancers and bagpipers. Local musician Roger Clyne will sample his tequila at 5 p.m. The JJ’s Band and the Jeff Hunt Band perform in the evening. $5 cover after 10 p.m.

Robbie Fox’s Public House: The party starts at 6 a.m. and extends outside, where Sixth Street will be closed off. Bagpipers, Irish dancers, jugglers, and DJs will provide the entertainment, while six beer trucks will keep the suds flowing. No cover.

Titled Kilt: Both East Valley locations serve Irish breakfast at 8 a.m., with festivities starting at 11 a.m. Chuck E. Baby and The Switch play in Mesa; the Lizard Kings, Navaeh, and the Persuaders perform in Tempe. Admission: $10 (Tempe also offers $25 VIP).

Iguana Mack’s: Doors open at 9 a.m. for Green Eggs & Kegs. Enjoy $2 green beers, $2 Jell-O shots and $5 Irish Car Bombs while watching wet t-shirt contest & beer-chugging contest. Live music by Struck Match. No cover.

The Harp: Doors open at 8 a.m., followed by Irish music and dancers. Music starts at 4 p.m. from Emmett the Sexy Irish Guy, Johnny Anonymous, and Chuck E. Baby. No cover.

R.T. O’Sullivan’s: All three Mesa locations will have $5 monster green draft beers, step dancers and bagpipers. Southern and Springs restaurants will have live music; Stapley will have DJs and dancing.
