By Jess Harter Thursday, March 20, 2014

Tempe firefighters report an ice machine at Umami caught fire around 1:30 a.m. this morning, forcing about 60 people to evacuate from apartments above the recently opened ramen restaurant.

The fire itself was contained to the appliance, but the smoke damage was extensive, firefighters said.

Umami, which was closed at the time, posted on its Facebook page it will be closed for several days for repairs.
