Good news for fans of “big” beers: SanTan Brewing has launched a series of limited-release ales with high ABV (alcohol by volume) percentages.

The beers are being called the Vault Series in reference to the historic Valley National Bank building that now houses that downtown Chandler brew pub. Its vault is used as the pub’s office.

Vault Series beers will be brewed in 100-barrel batches at the brew pub, which was freed up by the opening of SanTan’s new production brewery in Chandler last year, and released on draft and in 16-ounce cans.

The first release is Count Hopula, SanTan’s October seasonal that debuted in 2010. The “blood red” IPA (9.1% ABV) already is on tap at the brew pub.

Four-packs of 16-ounce cans of Count Hopula will appear in bars, restaurants, and stores in Arizona, southern California, and Texas later this month. Suggested retail price will be $15.99.

The 16-ounce (one-pint) cans are new for SanTan, whose canning line previously produced only standard 12-ounce cans. The downtown brew pub also sells made-to-order 32-ounce “Canzilla” cans of beers on tap.

Every 6-8 weeks, SanTan plans to introduce a variation of an existing seasonal or a new beer in the Vault Series.

Future releases will include Winter Warmer, Mad Czar Russian Imperial Stout, Fat AleBert Hey Hey Heavyweight Brown, Lalapalupalin Ridiculous IPA, and KiloHop Ludicrous IPA.
