Pita Jungle is taking over former Osteria space in northeast Mesa

Pita Jungle, the Tempe-born chain of Meditteranean-inspired eateries, continues to expand: It’s taking over the former Osteria space on the southeast corner of Alta Mesa and McKellips in northeast Mesa.

Osteria, a casual Italian restaurant, opened in a newly constructed building in March 2018, briefly closed last November, then closed permanently in April.

Pita Jungle was launched in Tempe in 1994 by former ASU students Nelly Kohsok, Fouad Khodr, and Bassel Osmani. It has grown to 21 locations throughout Arizona.

In addition to its namesake pitas, the menu offers hummus, salads, wood-fired pizzas, and various Mediterranean entrees.

Besides the northeast Mesa location – its third in the city – Pita Jungle also is opening new restaurants at Third Avenue and Roosevelt in Phoenix and at the 101 and Northern in Peoria.

It’s also been unofficially announced as a tenant at the upcoming Steelyard development on the southeast corner of Gilbert and Chandler Heights in south Chandler.

No opening dates have been announced yet.
