Artichoke Basille’s Pizza, an award-winning pizza chain out of New York City, will open its first Arizona location on the northwest corner of Lakeshore and Baseline in Tempe.
It joins an increasingly busy corner that already has Scramble and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and soon will add The Porch neighborhood gastropub (see MXSW story).
Cousins Francis Garcia and Sal Basille launched Artichoke in New York City’s East Village in 2008. It now has 12 locations in New York, two in California, one in Connecticut, and one in New Jersey.
Artichoke has been featured in the New York Times and named one of the ‘‘10 NYC Slices You Have To Try Before You Die’’ by Buzzfeed.
Garcia and Basille hosted the ‘‘Pizza Cuz’’ and ‘‘Pizza Masters’’ shows on the Cooking Channel.
No opening date for the Tempe location has been announced.
