Surf City brings award-winning sandwiches to southeast Gilbert

Surf City Sandwich, an award-winning sandwich shop and beach bar in Santa Cruz, Calif., has opened a second location next to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on Power just south of Ray in southeast Gilbert.

The concept, which combines founding chef Paul Figliomeni’s passions for food and surfing, debuted in 2015. His menu features 21 artisan sandwiches – 14 hot and seven cold – that are served with house-made chips or freshly tossed salads.

Highlights include:

  • Surf City Philly (pictured): Angus steak, grilled peppers and onions, American cheese, ghost pepper jack, and chipotle mayo on a toasted sweet French roll;
  • Chicken Cowabunga: Country fried chicken breast, American cheese, kosher pickles, caramelized onions, and Sriracha mayo on a brioche bun;
  • Pork Belly Bahn Mi: Char Siu style barbecue pork, pickled cucumber, carrots and onions, cilantro, fresh jalapeno, and Sriracha mayo on a sweet baguette;
  • Tiki Tuna: Ginger marinated ahi filet, pineapple-mango salsa, cilantro, and wasabi mayo on garlic toasted ciabatta roll.

The Gilbert location can’t serve craft beers yet; it’s waiting on its liquor license.
