Farmers markets

The Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market has moved from its longtime home at Central and McKinley. It now takes place on the southwest corner of Fifth Street and McKinley. The larger digs allow the market, which has summer hours of 7:30-11:30 a.m. Saturdays, to expand its roster of farmers and vendors and bring in more live entertainment.

The newly rebranded Downtown Mesa Farmers Market moves to a new location – the Mesa Arts Center on the southeast corner of Main and Center – from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday.

The year-round market, previously known at the Mesa Farmers Market & Flea, was launched in January 2019 by Worth Takeaway sandwich shop owners Jim Bob and Kelsey Strothers.

Under the couple’s guidance, the market, held at Pioneer Park, built a successful following despite the covid-19 pandemic. It includes farm produce, food and craft vendors, yoga classes, and live music.

Now, however, the Strothers want to refocus their attention on their acclaimed downtown restaurant and have handed over ownership of the market to the Downtown Mesa Association.

The DMA moved the market so it would be within the boundaries of downtown and tweaked the name, but few other changes are planned.

Free parking will be available off Center and First Avenue and at the Sirrine parking garage.
