🥙 It’s National Pita Day! Pita Jungle is donating $1 from every pita sandwich sold today at its 23 Arizona locations to local non-profit Waste Not, whose mission is creating sustainable food systems that help people and the planet flourish.

🐓 Saturday is National Hot Chicken Day! Angry Chickz is celebrating by offering $3 sliders from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The fast-food chain’s only Valley restaurant is on the northwest corner of Bell and 51st Avenue in Glendale.

🍸 Monday is April Fools Day! Bar Louie at Tempe Marketplace and Westgate in Glendale will be selling martinis for half-price all day. No joking.

The Mexicano tops AZ Salsa Festival winners & other notes

🌶 The Mexicano’s Fire Roasted Tomato Salsa (Best Overall Salsa), Los Amaya’s Prickly Pear Salsa (Most Unique Salsa), and Los Muertos Extreme Hot Salsa Blend (Spiciest Salsa) were the winners at the new Arizona Salsa Fest, which made its debut March 9 outside of State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

🐓 Birdcall is offering a limited-time Crispy Chicken Shawarma Sandwich – all-natural crispy shawarma chicken, tomato hummus, and cucumber yogurt salad on a brioche bun – through April 2 at its locations in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Gilbert. A dollar from every $10.25 sandwich goes to the non-profit Chef Ann Foundation.

☕️ Oregon-based Black Rock Coffee Bar has soft-opened its 37th Valley location on the southwest corner of Indian School and Jackrabbit Trail in Buckeye. The grand opening will include $2 medium drinks all day Friday.

🍦 Celebrate Shaquille O’Neal’s birthday Wednesday with a free ice cream cone at the former NBA star’s Big Chicken restaurant in downtown Gilbert. No purchase is necessary, but there’s a limit of one cone per person.

🐘 Stroll select Phoenix Zoo trails while enjoying craft brews, wine, and food at the annual Roars & Pours from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday. There also will be animal encounters, yard games, and entertainment. Tickets are $10.

🍻 Brew and taste some great beers when Greenwood Brewing in downtown Phoenix holds its annual Community Brew Day from 7:30-11 a.m. Friday. The $35 ticket includes a light breakfast, two beers, and a bottled beer to take home.

Food & drink news tidbits (fast food edition)

🌮 The Choco Taco, which Klondike discontinued in July 2022 after 40 years, is returning this summer thanks to a collaboration between Taco Bell and Salt & Straw ice cream. The new version will feature cinnamon ancho ice cream.

🐓🍕 KFC has introduced the Chizza, a limited-time menu mash-up in the U.S. consisting of two fried chicken filets topped with marinara, mozzarella, and pepperoni. It’s been a popular item for the chain in overseas markets since 2015.

🥐 Wendy’s just rolled out a new sweet treat for breakfast. The Cinnabon Pull-Apart ‘‘takes the nostalgic, classic cinnamon roll and transforms the ooey-gooey center into bite-sized pieces,’’ according to the chain.

🍩 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts has partnered with Hershey’s for a limited-time Chocomania collection – four new donuts coated, filled, and drizzled with Hershey’s chocolate. You can check them out through March 10.

☕️ Phoenix-based Press Coffee holds its annual Day of Giving today, donating 100% of the profits from all 17 of its Valley locations to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Hope Fund. Eight other businesses have agreed to match Press’ donation.

🆓 Saturday is National Tortilla Chip Day, and Phoenix-based Mesquite Fresh Street Mex will celebrate by offering guests free tortilla chips with their in-person or online orders at all nine of its Valley locations.

🇵🇱 Today is Fat Tuesday, and Bashas’ again is selling made-from-scratch paczki (Polish pastries similar to jelly doughnuts) individually or in boxes of six. The grocery chain is donating 10% from all paczki sales today to St. Vincent de Paul.

☕️ Oregon-based Black Rock Coffee Bar has opened its 40th Arizona location on the southwest corner of Northern and 83rd avenues in Glendale. The store is celebrating with various promotions throughout this week.

👨‍🍳 Famed chef and restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa will visit his eponymous Scottsdale restaurant for a ‘‘Taste of Nobu’’ event from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. Tickets are $250 per person and can be purchased here.

🐓 Farish House in downtown Phoenix is offering its signature chicken pot pies (pictured) to go for the next three days. You can order here and pick up 2-10 p.m. through Saturday. The $12 pies are boxed, cooked, and just need to be reheated.

🌮 Mesquite Fresh Street Mex, which has nine Valley locations, is giving cards for two free tacos to blood donors at American Red Cross blood drives around the Valley today through Feb. 12. See the dates and locations here.

🥞 Snooze is giving its loyalty club members a free Pancake of the Week during February. Today through Feb. 7, it’s a banana monkey bread pancake. Later this month: double chocolate brownie, blueberry ricotta, and peach cobbler.

🍕 Peter Piper Pizza is selling heart-shaped pizzas at all its Valley locations this month with $1 from each donated to the Phoenix Children’s Hope Fund. You can order the pizzas through Feb. 29.

🥓 Burger King is rolling out a limited-time Candied Bacon Whopper this week. Besides the traditional flame-grilled beef patty, tomatoes, lettuce, and sesame seed bun, it has crispy fried onions, garlic aioli, sweet bacon jam, and brown sugar candied bacon.

🥤 McDonald’s has launched its first CosMc’s, a new restaurant concept dedicated to drinks on the go, in Bolingbrook, Ill. It offers a huge array of new drinks, but only a few food items, mostly snacks like hash brown bites and doughnut holes.

🍔 Did you get a chance to try one of the limited-time smashed burgers at Jack in the Box this month? The company planned for a six-week run, but ran out of supplies after just two weeks because the burgers were so popular. Look for a return this spring.

📏 Subway has introduced a new menu that includes three new treats: a footlong chocolate chip cookie ($5), a footlong Cinnabon churro ($2), and a footlong Auntie Anne’s pretzel with honey mustard dipping sauce ($3).

🥃 Federal American Grill in Scottsdale hosts its weekly ‘‘Whiskey Wednesday’’ at 5:30 p.m. today. This week, attendees will taste a Barrel Aged Old Fashioned as well as a flight of Federal Barrel, Woodford Malted and Woodford Sonoma Triple for $40. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome..

💻 A pair of Mesa restaurants – Matty G’s and Knuckle Sandwiches – will be visited by a crew from marketing company America’s Best Restaurants on Tuesday, Feb. 6, for its web series ‘‘ABR Roadshow.’’

🐶 Local breakfast chain Over Easy says it raised $12,697 with its year-long fundraiser for the non-profit #LovePup Foundation. The restaurant donated $1 from designated seasonal dishes throughout 2023.

💵 Speaking of #LovePup Foundation, the shelter has collaborated with local beverage company AZ Liquids on a limited-time cold-brew espresso drink called Pup Brew. A portion of each $4.50 bottle sold goes to #LovePup.
