Now open: Tacos Chiwas brings Chihuahuan-style street tacos to Chandler

Tacos Chiwas, one of the top-rated taco shops in Phoenix, has opened its much-anticipated second location on the northwest corner of Alma School and Warner in Chandler.

MXSW previously broke the news that owners Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin (pictured) were taking over the strip-mall space that formerly was home to Puerto Rican eatery FrinGo’s Kitchen.

Their small Phoenix shop has garnered rave reviews for its Chihuahuan-style street tacos ($2.50). Tortillas are hand-pressed and cooked to order. Fillings include carne asada, pastor, carnitas, chicken, beef tongue, and tripe.

The menu also features gorditas ($3), burritos ($5.50), and quesadillas ($3.50).

Hernandez and Holguin debuted Tacos Chiwas on the southwest corner of 20th Street and McDowell in Phoenix in March 2016.

They’ve also partnered with Valley restaurateur Chris Bianco on a trio of eateries, most notably the short-lived but much-acclaimed Roland’s Market in Phoenix.

The trio also collaborated on two eateries at the Graduate Hotel in Tempe.
