The 5,600-square-foot, two-level roastery features a modern lounge area from which customers can watch the roasting process. The upper level is available for private events and coffee classes.

The café offers an expanded food and drink menu. In addition to the coffee- and espresso-based drinks, customers can order beer, wine, and spirits.

Valley-based Press Coffee releases Cold Brew in cans

By Jess Harter Friday, April 19, 2019

Valley-based Press Coffee, the first Arizona roaster to offer its cold-press coffee on tap, is now selling it in cans.

Unlike iced coffee – which is hot coffee poured over ice or refrigerated – Press’ cold brew is steeped in cold water for 20 hours, making it smoother, sweeter, and more caffeinated.

According to food industry tracker Datassential, cold-brew sales nationwide have grown 425% in the last four years.

“I don’t think anybody imagined the cold brew market would become what it is today at the pace it has,” Press co-owner Alex Mason says.

The roaster began kegging its cold brew in 2013, and it recently expanded its brewing system to produce the equivalent of 10,000 cups a week.

“This expanded production allows us to provide this great drink to even more of Arizona,” Mason says.

On Saturday, May 4, Press will be giving away free cans with the purchase of a draft cold brew at its eight locations in the Valley, including two in Tempe and one in Chandler.

Peixoto Coffee staff steps up to help GrindTime owners

By Jess Harter Monday, December 17, 2018

It’s been anything but a happy holiday season for Mark and Becky Housholder, owners of GrindTime Coffee, an East Valley food truck specializing in coffee drinks.

Last Tuesday, Dec. 11, the family’s car, carrying the couple and their two children, was violently rear-ended by a distracted driver.

Mark, Becky, and son Brock suffered painful injuries but were able to leave the hospital. Their 10-year-old daughter, Kira (pictured), wasn’t so lucky.

Lira suffered a skull fracture and lost all movement on the right side of her body. Fortunately, she’s since regained at least some control of her right arm and leg.

She and her family face a lengthy recovery process.

Enter owners Jeff and Julia Peters and their staff at Peixoto Coffee Roasters, who quickly stepped in and have been manning the GrindTime Coffee truck since the accident.

In addition, the downtown Chandler coffee shop is holding a ‘‘Coffee Mocktail Happy Hour’’ from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20. All proceeds will go to the Housholders.

If you want to contribute but can’t make the happy hour, you can donate to the Housholder’s GoFundMe page here.
